14:45 - 18:00 - Session 1: Earth observation for official statistics – the context and the use

The session will set the scene for discussions and embed the topic in various contexts: a policy one, a scientific one, a capacity one. The speakers will present various perspectives and experiences focusing on numerous applications and technologies for Earth observation, especially satellite imagery, applied and used in various statistical domains. They will identify opportunities and challenges arising from the availability of earth observation data and how these new data sources and technologies could be incorporated into regular official statistical production.
